How much proof does it take?
Ever talked to an atheist, an evolutionist, a skeptic, or any person who doesn't believe, like, or read the Scriptures? Well, I have for more years than I like to mention. They all have one thing in common, they can't listen.
What do I mean by that? Well, watch the face, eyes, and body stance of someone who is challenging your statement about the Scriptures being true. They throw a "stinger" at you, thinking you have no answer. And, while you are giving them the answer, you can watch them devising the next question in their mind instead of listening to your answer. Thus, they always think they have won the day.
Let me give you an example. "Where did Adam get his wife?" Ever heard that before? It is as old as Methuselah as they say. And, it has been answered a million, million times. Yet, it is still asked as if it is brand new and never been asked before.
On our TV show Code Six Four we used to take live phone calls. Guess what, that question came up sure as the sun. And, a lot of others. It got to the point when I answered these folks that other viewers began sending me booklets, etc. by authors who questioned the Bible with such nonsense. And, the sender would include a note to this effect, "Bob, you're the one who can answer these questions, will you do so on the show?"
It is so interesting to see how this works with the carnal mind. One lady called the show, and asked a question she thought would really blow me away. She believed in the Quran she said. Because of that, she said, she had studied to find the problems with the Bible. So, she proceeded to hit me with this one. "How come there are certain chapters in the Old Testament that are EXACTLY verbatim quoted by different authors as if they wrote those chapters themselves?" Sounds good, doesn't it? Do you know why that is? The answer is so simple that it is a mind blower when one sees the simplicity of the reason. What would your answer be?
Well, here is the answer. But, those of you who are critics will be forming the rebuttal before you grasp the answer, so you won't ever get it till your resurrection. Anyway, what is one of the big arguments against the Bible by "scholars", etc.? It is this. "There is no way such a book can be preserved accurately over hundreds of years, much less, thousands. So, the Bible cannot be accurate. There are too many mistakes in it to be true."
Do you get it? If you were going to preserve such a book over the centuries and millenia, what safeguard would you inspire to be in the book? Why, DUPLICATION of sections written by "different" authors at different times who were not in contact with each other. So, what do we have here? We have this...
A book that even today has sections in it that are VERBATIM copies of each other. That means, IF the arguments against the preservation of the book is true, then there should be absolutely NO verbatim CHAPTERS, let alone just short sentences or paragraphs, but chapters!! Do YOU get it? This is PROOF FOR the accurate preservation of the Scriptures, not an argument against the Scriptures.
So, here's what I wrote in my notebook, a few years ago:
"How much proof does it take? How many false statements refuted does it take? How many prophecies pinpointed in advance does it take? How many verses are required to refute false teachings?" and arguments?
Actually, it only takes one. Then all the other false arguments come falling down.
Just one, and the lady above who thought she had found the weakness with the Bible, had found the proof that it has been preserved accurately. You see, under other conditions she would have said, the book has been tampered with and the text changed. Yet, here she is, quoting proof of just the opposite. This method of checking on text preservation was built into the book by the Creator as a safeguard. The Book is true and accurate, whether you like it or not.
See ya' next time.
